Overview
This 7-day classic Tanzania safari links the northern circuit’s four signature parks in one private journey: elephant country in Tarangire, bird-rich Lake Manyara, the wildlife-packed Ngorongoro Crater, and two full days on the Serengeti plains where seasonal migration drama unfolds. Comfortable mid-range camps, expert guiding, and a scenic flight back toward Arusha keep the pace first-timer friendly without skimping on Big Five chances. Ideal if you want the complete classic route in a single week.
Itinerary
Touch down at Kilimanjaro International Airport and meet your Tanzania Safari Trip transfer for the short hop to a lodge near the airport. Unpack lightly, rest after long-haul travel, and meet your driver-guide for a calm briefing on tomorrow’s Tarangire departure, vehicle etiquette, and what to keep handy for dusty roads. There is no rushed park entry today—just a proper night’s sleep so you start safari days sharp. Overnight on bed and breakfast in the Kilimanjaro/Arusha gateway area.
After breakfast, drive south into Tarangire National Park, a northern-circuit gem defined by ancient baobabs, seasonal river systems, and some of Tanzania’s largest elephant gatherings. An afternoon game drive works woodland edges and open grassland for giraffe, lion, zebra, wildebeest, and prolific birdlife. Picnic or lodge lunch depends on timing and sightings. Toward evening settle near the park in a comfortable tented camp or lodge, listening to night sounds settle over the savannah after a strong first wildlife day.
Leave Tarangire for Lake Manyara National Park, a compact reserve of groundwater forest, alkaline lake shore, and escarpment views. Game drives here often reveal elephants in forest shade, hippos at water’s edge, and seasonal flamingo or waterbird concentrations when water levels cooperate. After the Manyara circuit continue into the cool Karatu Highlands on the Ngorongoro rim. Overnight with full board, preparing for tomorrow’s crater descent and onward Serengeti transfer.
Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a spectacular half-day game drive across grasslands and soda lakes where lions, buffalo, elephants, and sometimes black rhino concentrate in a volcanic caldera. Picnic lunch is taken on the crater floor when regulations and space allow. In the afternoon climb back to the rim and continue into Serengeti National Park as endless plains open ahead. Evening arrival at your Serengeti camp leaves time for sundowners and the first night under southern skies.
Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti’s open grasslands, kopjes, and riverine corridors with your private guide. Follow lion prides on the hunt, scan for cheetah on termite mounds, and watch zebra and wildebeest move across the horizon. Your route flexes with seasonal wildlife patterns rather than a rigid checklist, maximizing quality sightings over rushed miles. Return to camp for lunch or a bush picnic, then continue with a late-afternoon drive as golden light softens the plains.
A second Serengeti day targets the best seasonal sector for your travel month: southern Ndutu calving grounds in the green season, or northern river systems when migration herds push toward the Mara. Predator action, massive herds, and big-sky landscapes define the day. Your guide adjusts start times and picnic stops around wildlife movement and light. Overnight again in the Serengeti so you wake already inside the park for one final morning circuit before flying out.
Enjoy a last morning game drive while the plains are cool and active, then transfer to the airstrip for a scenic scheduled flight toward Arusha. A day room near the airport gives you space to shower, lunch, and pack before evening international connections. Optional short spa time or souvenir shopping can fit if your outbound flight allows. You leave with a complete classic circuit—Tarangire, Manyara, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti—compressed into seven well-balanced days.
