Itinerary
Welcome to Nairobi. On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) you are met and transferred to your city hotel for an easy first night. This is a soft landing day designed for rest after long-haul flights, with time to check in, freshen up, and enjoy your first taste of Kenyan hospitality.
Use the evening to confirm safari briefings, charge camera gear, and prepare for an early departure toward the Masai Mara tomorrow. If you arrive with spare hours, optional city highlights can sometimes be arranged locally. Meals: bed and breakfast.
After breakfast, begin the scenic drive southwest toward the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya most celebrated wildlife sanctuary. The journey takes roughly six hours depending on traffic and stops, with the landscape shifting from highland farms into open savannah as you near the reserve.
On arrival, check into your lodge or camp and head out for an afternoon game drive across endless golden plains. Expect first sightings of zebra, giraffe, elephants, and antelope, with strong chances of big cats as the light softens. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Spend a full day immersed in the Masai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. Guides follow fresh tracks across riverine forest, open grassland, and rocky kopjes in search of lion prides, leopard in trees, cheetah on the hunt, and the constant drama of predator and prey.
Hippos and crocodiles line sections of the Mara River, while elephant herds move between woodlands and plains. An optional Maasai village visit can be arranged for a cultural window into local traditions (extra cost). Every drive feels different as wildlife patterns shift with light and weather. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Today you travel across the Kenya-Tanzania border at Sirari, completing immigration formalities before continuing into the northern Serengeti. After a vehicle change as needed, the landscape opens into vast short-grass plains that feel continuous with the Mara yet distinct in mood and wildlife rhythm.
An en-route and afternoon game drive introduces Tanzania iconic park as wildebeest, gazelle, giraffe, and predators appear along the tracks. The border day is longer, about seven hours including formalities, but the reward is arriving inside the migration corridor. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Focus on northern Serengeti habitats where, in season, the Great Migration gathers for dramatic Mara River crossings. Spend the majority of the day on game drives near crossing points and grazing grounds, watching for crocodile-lined banks, hesitant herds, and the predators that shadow the columns.
Even outside peak river-crossing weeks, this region delivers excellent lion, leopard, and cheetah sightings against sweeping scenery. Later, continue toward the Central Serengeti for overnight, shifting into a different pocket of the ecosystem. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Explore Central Serengeti National Park, one of Africa most reliable year-round wildlife arenas. Morning and afternoon drives cover kopjes, open plains, and seasonal drainage lines where lions bask, elephants wander in family groups, and cheetahs scan for Thomson gazelle.
Sunrise light on the Serengeti is extraordinary for photography, while evenings often close with dinner under a dense canopy of stars. Your guide balances migration updates with classic predator search patterns so you experience both the spectacle and the quieter Serengeti moments. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
After an early final Serengeti game drive, journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a vast natural amphitheater where elephants, buffalo, lion, and endangered black rhino share the crater floor with flamingos on soda lakes when water levels allow.
Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the crater before ascending the rim and transferring to your nearby lodge or camp for a restful evening. The crater density of wildlife in a compact landscape makes this one of the most memorable safari days in East Africa. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Return to the crater floor for another morning of game viewing across short-grass plains and marsh edges, maximizing chances for rhino, big cats, and large herbivore herds within the extinct caldera. The enclosed geography concentrates animals in a way few parks can match.
Later, drive about three hours to the Tarangire area for overnight. The change from highland crater scenery to baobab-studded savannah marks the final wildlife chapter of the circuit. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
On your last safari morning, explore Tarangire National Park, famous for huge elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and a rich mix of predators and birdlife along the Tarangire River corridor. Soak up final game-drive hours before the long journey back toward Arusha.
Stop to freshen up near Arusha before transferring to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for evening departures. You leave with a complete Kenya-Tanzania story: Mara plains, Serengeti migration drama, Ngorongoro crater magic, and Tarangire elephants. Meals: breakfast, lunch.
